Bureau Takes Measures to Tackle Policy Adjustment of Business Tax on Property Sales

ĦĦĦĦAs of June 1, 2006, new policies on business tax went effective for property sales. Once this information was unveiled, the number of taxpayers who went to the taxation hall of the Municipal Local Taxation Bureau increased dramatically on May 30 and 31. According to statistics, taxation for secondhand house transactions was about 4 times as large as that of usual times, totaling over 5,000 taxpayers. It was very difficult to control the situation in some places, where policemen were asked to keep order. In the spirit of benefiting taxpayers, the Municipal Local Taxation Bureau promptly took emergent measures to tackle this problem: first, convene an emergent coordinating meeting, and ask top officials from both direct offices and district or county branches of the Bureau to take onsite command with concerted cooperation of all functional departments; second, add new hands to existing tax collecting staffs; third, implement the registration system; forth, prolong office time, and have staffs stay on duty until zero hour at midnight in some districts and counties; fifth, set up consulting desks to organize tax officers in publicizing and explaining policies to taxpayers. By 15:00 on May 31, the order was fine in all taxation halls and no lineup appeared as a result of these effective measures, receiving extensive applause from taxpayers.
